Study of HF Channel Conditions Using WWV/WWVH test Modulation Signals

This paper summarizes a year-long data-collection and analysis effort using test signals transmitted by WWV and WWVH every hour. Multipath and Doppler fading profiles for two links from Massachusetts to Boulder, Colorado (WWV), and Hawaii (WWVH) were calculated. Correlations between multipath and Doppler profiles and Kp index were calculated. This paper also proposes a set of techniques for processing and using the WWV/H test signals.
